The proportion of public patients discharged from Irish hospitals rose last year, continuing the trend which has seen an average annual increase in public patients of 4.4 per cent since 2008. Public patients made up 83.2 per cent of the total discharges in Irish hospitals last year, an increase of 5.5 per cent since 2011, according to research published by the Economic & Social Research Institute this morning.
